Choose your materials

The first step is to choose the type of wool you will use to begin your project. You should have an idea of what the finished product will look like before determining what size yarn to use. The Alpaca fleece can be spun into several sizes from extremely fine wool to very thick. Thick yarns are typically used for big bulky sweaters and they can possibly be used for decorative blankets and throws. Single or double strand?

A single strand stitch will still be warm based on the type of material, but not as warm as a double strand. A double strand is better for bulky sweaters or apparel that is intended for keeping us warm, such as for layers under ski wear. The double strand needs bigger needles so you can accommodate the bulk. Knit using a tight or loose stitch depending on your comfort level and the desired finished product. Care of alpaca wool

It will not bleed or shrink however it may lose its shape, especially over time. To help prevent this, carefully blot excess water from the garment and lay it flat to dry. Make sure to shape it properly with every wash to ensure the garment keeps its shape. Alpaca fleece has a slight tendency to stretch or become misshapen, but do not let this detract you from knitting with it.
